Marlboro is a township within Monmouth County, NJ and on the Eastern Seaboard close to the Atlantic Ocean. The township was incorporated through an act of the New Jersey Legislature in 1848, and was formed from some portions of Freehold Township. Marlboro is conveniently located close to major highways and roadways, including Routes 9 and 18, Turnpike, and Parkway.
Named after the abundance of marl beds around its area, Marlboro was the site of several skirmishes between American and British forces during the Revolutionary War, as the British relied on the area around Pleasant Valley Road for their food supply. After retreating during the Battle of Monmouth in 1778, British forces made their way through Marlboro towards their docked ships in Sandy Hook, before being attacked by American militiamen along the route.
Today, Marlboro Township is a scenic community with a rich history. The township offers a high quality of life, thanks to its excellent schools and outstanding public services.
